Don’t stop talking like a pirate so soon! If you’re in the Twin Cities, don’t miss “Buccaneers” at the Children’s Theatre Company. It’s an original musical by Liz Duffy Adams and it is excellent.

Bradley Greenwald is as wonderful as always, but watch for Dot McDonald and Essence Stiggers, who match him.

I’m so excited! This year’s Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy was presented at the Nebulas this weekend. The whole field of nominees was astoundingly wondeful, but the award went to THE FREEDOM MAZE, by Delia Sherman.

Congratulations to everyone nominated in all categories, all the winners, and most particularly to Delia.

In the past few weeks, I’ve written (and sold!) a short story and a half.

The half story is my share of “The Vital Importance of the Superficial.” The other half of the story was written by Ellen Kushner, and the whole thing will appear in the forthcoming anthology Queen Victoria’s Book of Spells: Tales of Gaslight Fantasy, edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, for Tor Books. To say I am chuffed is putting it very mildly indeed. Ellen asked me to collaborate with her and the experience brought back all kinds of great memories of the letter games we played during summers when we were in college.

The whole story is ”The Language of Flowers,” in Ekaterina Sedia’s forthcoming anthology Wilful Impropriety, from Constable & Robinson in the UK, and Running Press in the US. I am thrilled to be in this collection. Writing “The Language of Flowers” gave me fresh insight into the phrase “I’m having almost too much fun.”

I just posted my very first kestrel watch sighting. Kirby the Kestrel was working the lights in the left field stands at the Twins game on Saturday night. Great to see him scooping up those moths.

Damsels in Regress is a terrific resource for writers of historical fiction. When they asked me if I would do an interview at their blog about MAGIC BELOW STAIRS, I jumped at the chance. Perhaps I went off the deep end of chattiness, but I had a lot of fun doing it.
